Celtic news: Ex-Fifa official issues ‘brilliant’ claim as controversial Tom Rogic footage analysed

Keith Hackett has insisted Kayne Ramsay was rightly sent off as Ross County were thrashed 4-0 by Celtic on Saturday (19 March).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee admitted it looked “harsh” on first viewing but Don Robertson was in a “really good position” to make a “brilliant” decision.

As shown on the BBC’s Sportscene programme, with Ross County already 3-0 down Ramsay launched into a challenge with Tom Rogic over a loose ball.

Robertson immediately reached to his pocket and gave the 21-year-old his marching orders.

He will now miss Couty’s next three games as they fight to finish in the top-six before the split.

Asked for his verdict on the incident Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think his boot is high.

“It looks like nothing when you first see it but when you look at it and stop it his boot is high. I agree that it was a red card.

“It looks harsh in the context of things but you can’t do those challenges anymore.

“The referee is in a really good position and is absolutely decisive, he knows exactly what he’s doing so you have to go, that’s brilliant, he’s actually made the right call and sold it.

“He was in a great position to judge, made a call and got it correct.”

Ross County’s next two games ahead of the split are a trip to Hearts and a home game with Aberdeen.

Celtic are next in action after the international break when they face Rangers at Ibrox (2 April).
