Celtic news: Hutton delivers honest verdict on dreadful performances
Celtic players must “look in the mirror” following recent dreadful performances.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed the squad’s displays have caused a “major problem” by sparking booes from the Parkhead faithful.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have slipped to second place after 1-1 draws against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock this month, which has allowed arch-rivals Rangers to go top.
In response to the lacklustre campaign, fans have frequently jeered at players, the board and Rodgers this seaosn, with the manager claiming he “totally” understood their reaction after the Killies draw.
Celtic fans are discontent amid the club’s dwindling form
Hutton admitted that Celtic do have the mentality to win the league, but suggested fans will only get back on their side if they show more effort on the field.
“It’s the worst thing,” he told Football Insider.
“Obviously, they have to understand that the boos were there for a reason – the performances have not been good enough at all.
“The players need to look in the mirror and ask if they’re doing enough to win these games.
“There’s obviously a major problem there, but the one thing I would say is that they’ve go that winning mentality in there.
“They’ve won a lot over the years.
“They’ve not been in the position in recent years where they’ve had to chase Rangers – that’s where the fans’ frustrations come from.

“There’s been big change at Celtic, but the players have to perform.
“When they start doing that, the fans will get behind them.”
