Celtic news: Hutton issues ‘brilliant’ verdict as quotes surface from Parkhead

Alan Hutton has claimed bowing out of the Europa Conference League “won’t go down well” with the Celtic fans.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Parkhead club should be going “all out” to “make history” in the competition.

Celtic trail Norweigan champions Bodo/Glimt 3-1 ahead of Thursday’s Europa Conference League play-off second leg at the Aspmyra Stadium.

Speaking at today’s (23 February) pre-match press conference and quoted by Sky Sports, manager Ange Postecoglou insisted he will not budge from his “aggressive” philosophy as the Hoops look to turn the tie around.

Hutton suggested Celtic have a “brilliant opportunity” to win the competition if they can complete a comeback.

“I’m one of those people who wants to win every competition I play in,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“That’s just how I am. I’m pretty sure that’s how Celtic will be thinking, considering all the trophies they’ve won in the past – why wouldn’t they want to try and win this one?

“This is a brilliant opportunity. They’re probably one of the highest-ranking sides left in the competition.

“If they were to crash out at this early round, I think it really wouldn’t go down well with a lot of fans.

“Even as a momentum and confidence thing, coming back in this tie would do wonders for that Celtic side.

“They’ve got the chance to go down in history as the first winners of a European trophy, so why not go all out and try to bring it home?”
