Celtic news: Keith Wyness shares ‘massive’ verdict after Rangers off-pitch news confirmed

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Rangers recording larger gate receipts than Celtic will not be a “massive concern” for the Hoops.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Celtic’s balance sheet is “much healthier” than their rivals’ overall.

Uefa have recently released their annual European Club Finance and Investment report, and both Old Firm clubs have posted promising results which show them competing well with clubs in England and on the continent.

The report showed Rangers recording gate receipts of £41million in the 2022-23 campaign, £1million more than rivals Celtic.

Rangers winning revenue war won’t faze Celtic, says Wyness

It also shows the Gers are yielding an average of £37 per supporter attending home games while their Parkhead rivals net just £33 per fan.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think that difference will be a massive concern for the Celtic boardroom.

“It’s a small enough number. You can go backwards and forwards with a million here and a million there.

“Certainly, everyone wants bragging points when they can in Scotland.

“But Celtic won’t be concerned about Rangers because their balance sheet is much healthier.

“Rangers still have that painful memory of having to go down the leagues and back up again.

“But I’m sure their fans will clutch at any straw to say they are outperforming Celtic.”
