Celtic news: McAvennie drops brutal Adam Idah verdict – ‘he’s not Brendan’s signing’

Celtic January signing Adam Idah will only be a backup to Kyogo Furuhashi and won’t be utilised often by Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie admitted he has strong reservations about the 22-year-old due to his lack of game time at Norwich City.

Celtic signed the Republic of Ireland international on loan from the Championship club for the remainder of the season.

He bagged an assist on his debut in the Hoops’ 1-1 draw against Aberdeen on Saturday (3 February) and had notched seven goals for the Canaries before his switch to the Glasgow giants.

However, McAvennie noted that he wanted his former side to sign a more experienced goalscorer and claimed Idah’s lack of starts for Norwich, just 12 in the English second tier, proved Celtic should be aiming higher.

“I think he’ll just be cover for Kyogo,” he told Football Insider.

“He seems like an out-and-out striker – totally the opposite of Kyogo, which might not be a bad thing.

“He’s not getting a game for Norwich.

“I don’t think he’s a Brendan Rodgers signing.

“I might be wrong, but I can’t see Brendan using him that often.

“If that’s the quality Brendan is bringing in, then I’m worried.

“I’m not convinced by him.

“Nicolas Kuhn has come in and he looks the part, but I’m not sure about Idah.

“He seems to be fourth choice at Norwich – is that what Celtic are looking at now?”
