Celtic news: McLeish issues ‘next level’ claim after Benjamin Siegrist update
Alex McLeish has insisted Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist would take his game to the “next level” with a move to Celtic this summer.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 30-year-old has been “outstanding” for the Tangerines.
As reported by the Daily Mail (8 June), Celtic are plotting a possible move for Siegrist after Vasilis Barkas moved on loan to Utrecht.
The United shot-stopper is reportedly high on the Hoops’ shortlist as they look for reinforcements between the sticks.
McLeish admitted Siegrist still has things to learn at the very highest level of football.
However, he claimed the keeper would only continue developing playing for Celtic.
“It seems a really mature age for a goalkeeper,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I’ve seen a bit of Siegrist and he’s been outstanding in some moments. If he goes up to the next level with a club like Celtic, he’ll immediately see he doesn’t know it all.
“He’s still got things to learn at the very highest level. By all intents and purposes, he will be a part of the European scene as well.
“That enhances your game by, I won’t say tenfold, but quite a lot.”
Ange Postecoglou currently has Joe Hart and Scott bain as his senior goalkeeper options at Parkhead.
Promising keeper Conor Hazard is out on loan at Helsinki until the end of 2022.

Siegrist played 42 times across all competitions last season, with 13 clean sheets under his belt.
He has played 66 times in the Scottish Premiership to date.
