Celtic news: Pundit claims Hoops ‘want out’ of Conference League after critical development

Celtic won’t be too upset if they get knocked out of the Europa Conference League next week.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, who exclusively told Football Insider the Hoops may want to focus on winning the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic lost 3-0 to Bodo/Glimt on Thursday (17 February) in a blow to their chances of staying in European competition this season.

The Hoops will travel inside the arctic circle for the return leg against the Norweigian champions next week (24 February.

Kenny insists Celtic have a huge task on their hands but suggested they might not mind being knocked out.

“I don’t imagine they will be too upset if they go out,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I get that but winning games breeds confidence. This is a team who hadn’t played for weeks and they have rocked up to Celtic and won.

“Celtic won’t be happy with that, they will be going to Norway to win, in minus 3000 degrees probably.

“It will be difficult for them because this side has shown they do have quality but we have seen Celtic play some excellent football this season.

“It’s the conference league as well, not even the Europa League, I’m convinced they probably want out of it.

“I didn’t see this coming so Celtic will probably still go into next week as favourites.

“But, as I say, going out isn’t the end of the world for them.”

The Bhoys are next in action against Dundee on Sunday (20 February).

They remain top of the Scottish Premiership.
