Celtic news: Pundit issues ‘really exciting’ David Turnbull verdict after confirmed news

Noel Whelan has claimed the “really exciting” return of David Turnbull could prove to be the “difference” for Celtic in the title race.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old was the Hoops’ “shining light” during a barren spell earlier this season.

Turnbull had notched nine goals and seven assists in 34 games for Celtic this term but has not featured for Ange Postecoglou’s side since mid-December.

As per The Scotsman last Thursday (10 March), Postecoglou confirmed Turnbull is set to return to full training this week after his lengthy injury absence.

Whelan claimed the Scotland international’s return will be “like having a new signing” for the Glasgow giants.

“He really hit the ground running at Celtic but has been out for quite some time now,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Turnbull was their shining light through a really bad period at the start of the season. But now, he’s coming back into the fold at exactly the right time.

“Postecoglou will need these players and these numbers in his ranks if Celtic are chasing a goal. It’s like having a new signing, it’s really exciting news.

“The run-in will be so difficult but to have that quality change of personnel could be the difference.

“He’s someone that the Celtic fans are really excited about, and I can see why. He’s a brilliant young player for them.”
