Celtic news: ‘Rangers fans will be worried’ as ‘massive’ James Tavernier claim made – Hutton

Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers fans will be “worried” about the defence heading into tonight’s derby clash with Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers full-back and Rangers TV pundit claimed the battle between James Tavernier and Jota would be “massive” in determining the result at Parkhead.

The Light Blues head into derby day off the back of a disappointing 3-3 draw with Ross County.

The performance was littered with defensive errors, most notable for County’s second goal.

Hutton admitted it was a concern heading into tonight’s clash.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’m sure that a lot of people, especially Rangers fans, will be worried.

“After the winter break, I don’t think Rangers have hit top form at yet. I know Ross County can be a tough place to go but to concede three goals in the manner that they did wasn’t great.

“Where’s it going to be won or lost? I mean, I think it’s down to both defences. Who can really play at the top of their game?

“We know, on their day, Rangers’ defence and Celtic’s defence can play at a high level, but it can be inconsistent.

“So it’s whoever can handle that occasion best. Whoever can win their one-on-one battles.

“The likes of Tavernier against Jota on one side, I think that could be a massive part of the game. Who can influence the game, things like that.

“So I think it’s going to be down to the defences and who can hold the other strike force out.”

Rangers currently sit two points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Premiership table.

The Gers won the first derby clash of the season 1-0 back in August.
