Celtic news: This is ‘only’ thing that may stop Cameron Carter-Vickers signing after agent reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested wages could be the “only thing” that might stop Cameron Carter-Vickers from signing for Celtic this summer.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the money on offer at Parkhead “will not touch the sides” of what the 24-year-old could get in the Premier League.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun (1 June), Carter-Vickers revealed he and his agent have been in discussions over a possible move this summer.

The Daily Record claim (23 May) the defender has agreed personal terms as the clubs negotiate a £6million transfer.

However, Whelan admitted a Premier League club could gazump the Hoops.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think that’s the only thing that Celtic can’t compete with. If you’re looking at fanbase, yes. If you’re looking at winning trophies, yes.

“When it comes to weekly wages and what they can actually offer a player, it will not touch the sides compared to a Premier League club. That is just the way it is and that is fact.

“He needs to decide what it is he wants. Is the money more important to him? Or is it being at a football club where you’re going to win trophies and probably play in the Champions League every single season?

“He is at a club where he has won the Premiership. Is staying in England and the money more important to maybe finishing the season and your career with medals and trophies.”

Carter-Vickers played 45 times for Celtic during his loan spell.

He only has five first-team appearances under his belt for Tottenham.
