Celtic news: This may be real reason for Osaze Urhoghide exit plot – pundit
Alex McLeish has admitted letting Osaze Urhoghide leave this summer could be a “mistake” from the Celtic coaches.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss suggested the 21-year-old “failed to master” what Ange Postecoglou wanted from him in his first six months at Parkhead.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (28 March), Celtic have given Orhoghide the green light to leave this summer, a year after his arrival on a free transfer.
The defender is current on loan at KV Oostende and the Belgian outfit have the option to turn the move permanent at the end of the season.
However, a Celtic source told this site Urhoghide is likely to move elsewhere if Oostende do not sign him up.
McLeish insisted the defender must not have shown enough to convince the Celtic coaching staff of his ability to develop.
However, he admitted coaches sometimes get it wrong.
“Listen, sometimes the senior coaches will make mistakes,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I’m not saying they’ve made a mistake here. It can be that the player matures.
“But they must have seen something that they feel he can’t master, whether it’s a defensive thing or an attacking issue.
“When you’re training players to do a certain action for the team or for themselves, if they don’t master it when they’re younger, it becomes much harder to get it into your game in your 20s.
“I have seen many, many examples like that.”

Urhoghide played once for Celtic’s senior side before being shipped out on loan.
His contract at Parkhead runs until the summer of 2025.
