Celtic news: This may be secret to Giorgos Giakoumakis turnaround at Parkhead – pundit
Giorgos Giakoumakis is now enjoying great success for Celtic because of the willing runners around him, according to Alex McLeish.
The ex-Rangers and Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, likes the fact that Giakoumakis, 27, is not afraid to get “in where it hurts” to score goals.
Giakoumakis was the match winner on Saturday after scoring a hat-trick in a 4-0 win win over Ross County at Celtic Park.
The £2.5million summer signing struggled in the first half of the season.
However, since the turn of the year he has turned things around and scored 11 goals in 12 games across all competitions.
Speaking to club media after Saturday’s win (19 March), Ange Postecoglou pointed to the service provided from Celtic’s attack when speaking about Giakoumakis.
When asked by Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge for his thoughts on the striker’s form, McLeish said:
“In the first game, I liked the style of him. It looked like he wanted to get right in where it hurts. He wants to be in the six-yard box.
“I just like his movement when he’s in the team. He’s very capable if he gets the room.

“There is a lot of players who run off the ball and contribute with goals in that team.
“They have one or two flair players which the fans love. They love having flair players in their team and right now it’s coming from multiple angles.”
In other news, James McCarthy has been tipped to snub a summer exit from Celtic amid a ‘surprising’ claim.
