Celtic number one summer signing priority revealed – sources
Celtic are prioritising the signature of a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The position is the club’s number one priority given that current number one Joe Hart will leave at the end of the season.
The 36-year-old, who has made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, will see his contract expire this summer.
And there are no plans to upgrade with fellow Celtic Park shot-stoppers Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist.
Celtic have summer transfer window priority
The Bhoys are indeed ready to listen to offers for the latter this summer, despite the 32-year-old having a contract until 2026.
He has featured in just one Celtic squad this season, while fellow 32-year-old Bain has been limited to just two appearances.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has relied heavily upon Hart this season, with the experienced goalkeeper playing more minutes than anyone else at the club.
However, sources told Football Insider in January that the Bhoys will replace Hart as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in the summer.
He has been key to their strong Scottish Premiership showing, with the Glasgow club currently top of the standings.
Rodgers’s side are one point ahead of fierce rivals Rangers after the duo played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Ibrox on Sunday (7 April).
Philippe Clement’s side do, however, have a game in hand over their Glasgow rivals, but it is the Bhoys who boast a better goal difference.
Both clubs are out of European competitions but remain in the Scottish Cup, with Celtic meeting Aberdeen and Rangers taking on Hearts in the semi-finals of the competition.

Hampden Park will host both matches, with another Glasgow derby therefore on the cards, along with the final Old Firm league clash following the fixture split.
