Celtic to offload first-team ace to PL high-flyers for £7m in January – report
Celtic are set to offload defender Jozo Simunovic to Burnley in the January transfer window, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the Scottish champions would sell the Bosnian international to the high-flying Premier League side for around £7million next month as they eye up a move for Dundee’s Jack Hendry as a potential replacement.
Simunovic, 23, has been a mainstay of the Hoops first-team this season, making 19 appearances across all competitions despite missing a bulk of the early part of the campaign due to injury.
The Celtic ace would be the sort of signing Sean Dyche’s side would hope could take them into Europe after a very successful first-half of the season which currently has them in seventh place in the Premier League table.
Football Insider verdict
Normally this could be written off as a rumour, but on this occasion there could be something in the story. Simunovic’s future at Celtic has never really been looked at as secure even though he signed a new contract earlier this season. The player was widely reported to have almost joined Torino last season but the deal collapsed at the last minute so Brendan Rodgers has been willing to sell the player in the past. With the emergence of Kristoffer Ajer and the signing of Marvin Compper the Hoops seem to have ideas for a new central-defensive partnership that doesn’t include the Bosnian defender, and if the money’s right he could very well be sold to help fund the Bhoys’ next tilt at the Champions League group stages.
