Celtic player ratings v Rangers: Senior quartet 4/10 in shock draw

COMMENT

Celtic failed in their opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table by being held to a shock 0-0 draw by their old rivals Rangers in the Old Firm derby.

Brendan Rodgers made changes from the side which defeated Dundee, bringing in Moussa Dembele for Leigh Griffiths, Stuart Armstrong for Olivier Ntcham and Scott Sinclair for Jonny Hayes.

The Bhoys started off poorly, and bad defending from Mikael Lustig and Dedryck Boyata let in Alfredo Morelos but Craig Gordon made the save.

Celtic then had their best spell of the entire game. James Forrest almost opened the scoring but Foderingham touched his effort around the post.

A scramble in the box lead to Wes Foderingham saving a Sinclair shot on the goal-line then Sinclair was guilty of missing a sitter at the tail end of the first-half, putting an effort wide when it seemed easier to score.

The Gers had by far the better chances in the second-half, first James Tavernier being denied by a Gordon save, then Morelos being denied by an instinctive save by Gordon with his legs.

Morelos then wasted a great chance, putting a free header wide of the post.

The game ended 0-0, a fair result overall but Rodgers won’t be happy with the performance.
