Celtic set aside ‘huge funds’ as they work on signing ‘A-list’ forward – Sources

Celtic are working on signing a top-class forward to replace Liel Abada this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources have told Football Insider (7 March) that the Israel international has completed a medical ahead of a move to MLS side Charlotte FC after they beat two of their rivals to a deal.

The club are expected to make a £6.5million profit after selling Abada for an initial £8million, which could rise to £10million with add-ons.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the Hoops are seeking an “A-list talent” to replace the wide forward.

It said that “huge funds” will be set aside going into the summer to secure replacement for the wide forward, who became such an integral member of the team after joining from Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva in 2021.

Celtic are already assessing targets and laying the groundwork for a deal as they compile a shortlist of targets.

They want a direct, pacy operator in the mould of Abada who bagged 29 goals and supplied 22 assists across 112 appearances in all competitions for Celtic while mainly operating on the right flank.

The Hoops are eyeing players of a similar attacking profile as Abada, who won PFA Young Player of the Year in his debut season after arriving for a reported £3.6million.

Celtic remain second in the Scottish top flight after their 2-0 defeat against Hearts on Sunday (3 March), but are still just two points behind Rangers after their loss to Motherwell on Saturday (2 March).

They are next in action against Livingston in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (10 March).
