PL giants prepare to table £15m bid for key Celtic player – report

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney could be making a departure from Parkhead this summer after attracting interest from a number of English Premier League clubs, according to a recent report.

The Mirror claim that both Manchester United and Arsenal have had their eye on the 20-year-old left-back.

The newspaper has revealed Premier League giants United look most likely to swoop on Brendan Rodgers’ star defender as Jose Mourinho is preparing to make a £15 million bid for the Scotland international.

It is said that the Manchester club even sent out scouts to watch the defending ace, who reported back to Mourinho saying how stunning Tierney was on international duty against England last month.

The Mirror claim that Arsene Wenger is also interested in the left-back but Rodgers is prepared to put up a fight to keep the defender at Parkhead.

The Mirror has previously reported that Man United were plotting an offer for Tierney, but did not mention how much they were willing to spend – which the latest report does.

The Scotsman has climbed through the ranks with the Hoops as a young player and eventually signed with the club in 2015 and has become a key player ever since.

Tierney has another four years left at the club, and Rodgers is reportedly trying to entice the 20-year-old to stay for at least one more season.

Despite suffering from a cruciate ligament injury between October and January, the left-back still made a vital contribution to the domestic treble winning club throughout the season.

The full-back made a total of 40 appearances for the Bhoys, where the Scotland international provided two goals and an impressive 12 assists throughout all competitions.

Football Insider verdict:

Losing Kieran Tierney would be devastating for Rodgers and he must do everything in his power to keep the 20-year-old at Parkhead. The left-back made such a vital contribution to the club’s successes last season, and losing him could prove disastrous. Although Rodgers must do his best to keep him, the starlet will no doubt attract more attention as he performs in the coming season which means a move could be on the cards next year if he stays. Therefore the Hoops boss must recruit a new left-back during the summer who is ready to step into Tierney’s boots, as currently the manager only has Emilio Izaguirre as a back-up.
