Celtic set to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers for ‘very cheap’ fee as talks open – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Cameron Carter-Vickers is “worth every penny” of a potential £6million fee after talks opened between Celtic and Tottenham.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed that potential outlay is “very cheap” for someone as experienced as the 24-year-old.

Carter-Vickers produced an impressive display alongside defensive partner Carl Starfelt as Celtic resisted late Rangers pressure to hold on to a 2-1 Old Firm victory at Ibrox on Sunday (3 April).

The United States international also scored from close range to give Celtic the lead just before half-time.

As per SofaScore, Carter-Vickers registered eight clearances, three interceptions, and won eight of his ten contested duels.

According to Sky Sports (29 March), talks have opened between Celtic and parent club Tottenham regarding a £6million deal when his loan spell finishes.

Whelan claimed the defender has been “solid as a rock” this term.

“£6million? Worth every penny,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s been solid as a rock since coming into Celtic, and not only that but he’s been getting on the scoresheet at important times too.

“He gets himself in the right areas, he’s brilliant on the ball, and he’s just someone who is very consistently playing well at the minute.

“He’s a real leader in that Celtic side. I wouldn’t want to see them without him at the back next season, put it that way. I think he’s deserved that £6million tag.

“That is a very cheap fee for someone with the extensive experience that he’s had.”

Despite failing to make a league appearance for Tottenham, Carter-Vickers has racked up 173 senior games at just 24.

Celtic pulled six points clear in the Scottish Premiership race with Sunday’s win.
