Medical expert predicts David Turnbull to make Celtic comeback against Rangers

David Turnbull will likely make his Celtic comeback against Rangers after the international break on 2 April.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Turnbull, 22, has not played since he suffered serious damage to his hamstring in mid-December.

But The Scotsman reported yesterday (16 March) that the playmaker is now back in full team training.

The Hoops face Ross County at Parkhead on Saturday (19 March).

Dinnery claims that Turnbull could potentially be called upon for the clash but will likely be held back until after the impending international break.

“It would be a big push for him to be back against Ross County,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“That would represent exactly three calendar months on the sidelines with his hamstring problem. We know it was a severe, extensive setback.

“Even at best, we’re maybe looking at three days on the training pitch. One of those will be a tactical session where real hard work will be minimal.

“Making that return to training is a major step, but it makes more sense to be looking straight after the break with this one. Early April would be realistic.

“I would never definitively rule someone out because it ultimately comes down to the player and the manager.

“His importance to the club and other factors come into play. But in an ideal scenario, he’ll be held back.”

Turnbull has scored nine times and supplied seven assists in 34 appearances this term.

The Hoops can extend their lead atop the Scottish Premiership to six points with victory on Saturday, with Rangers not in action until the following day.
