Celtic tipped to accept ‘big’ Daizen Maeda offer after transfer update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Celtic would listen to a “big” offer for Daizen Maeda.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said the Hoops would need a big enough fee for Maeda so they can sign a replacement.

According to footballscotland (6 January), Southampton will be watching the 25-year-old in the Celts’ League Cup semi-final against Kilmarnock on Saturday (14 January).

The attacker is believed to be high on the list for Nathan Jones’ side after his impressive performances at the World Cup in Qatar as well as his consistently strong domestic performances.

Maeda’s current contract runs until 2026 after completing a permanent transfer in the summer.

Southampton sit rock bottom of the Premier League and are among the favourites to be relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

But Jones’ side reached the semi-final of the Carabao Cup after a shocking 2-0 victory over Man City on Wednesday (11 January).

Hutton suggested the Hoops may be willing to listen to offers for one of their star players.

It will be the big talking point, how much is he worth in today’s market?” he told Football Insider.

Celtic

For Celtic to let one of their better players go it needs to be worth it for them. They also need a replacement there.

I know they are heavily stocked when it comes to attacking players, they have got lots of options. Maybe if a big fee comes in they will be willing to listen to it but it all comes down to the number.

In other news, Celtic could accept cut-price Josip Juranovic bid – ‘he would have been aiming higher,’ says pundit.
