Celtic tipped to complete multiple 'shrewd signings' after huge-money reveal - pundit

Alex McLeish has tipped Celtic to make several “shrewd signings” with the money from Kristoffer Ajer’s sale to Brentford.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Ange Postecoglou may look to use his knowledge of Asian and Australian football to bolster his squad.

Celtic confirmed Ajer had left Parkhead to sign for Brentford on Wednesday (July 21st).

As revealed by Football Insider (July 21st), the Bees have paid an initial £13.5million, with an extra £4million agreed in add-ons.

Celtic announced the signing of Sweden centre-back Carl Starfelt shortly after Ajer’s departure.

McLeish suggested the Hoops would look for other “shrewd signings” instead of splashing the cash this summer.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “This is where Postecoglou, along with the recruitment must be canny. Looking to bring in some shrewd signings.

“Postecoglou has worked with a few guys abroad in Asia, Japan and, of course, Australia. So he’ll be looking to try and bring in maybe somebody we haven’t seen before.

“It’s possible he will do that and it will be a shrewd signing, I would expect something like that. It won’t be a £15million signing, it will be done with a bit of care and thought.

“If you’re going for £13million signings, you know you’re competing with all the major countries, very rich countries.”

Celtic have already announced the signing of Japan international Kyogo Furuhashi from Vissel Kobe.

Postecoglou spent just over three years in charge of J-League side Yokohama F. Marinos.

As well as Starfelt and Furuhashi, Celtic have signed Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide and Liel Abada.
