Celtic tipped to green light James McCarthy deal after source’s reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Celtic will be open to a loan move or a permanent exit for James McCarthy in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender was “surprised” at the length of McCarthy’s initial Parkhead deal.
The 31-year-old joined the Glasgow club last summer on a four-year deal and has made just five appearances for the club this season.

On Saturday (29 October), sources told this site that the Celts will listen to offers for the midfielder in January.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are keen to free up space on the wage bill and find a new club for the Republic of Ireland international for the second half of the season.
When asked if the Hoops will be looking for a loan move or permanent deal for McCarthy, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think they will be open to both.
“I think if they can get some money in through the door to then reinvest it somewhere else I think they would rather that option.
“There is no getting away from the fact that he is a really great football player. He has struggled with injuries over the years.

“I was surprised at the contract they actually gave him. It was a long-term deal at the time with somebody who had not really been able to stay fit. It was a bit of a strange one.
“When he has played we have seen in flashes what he is capable of but it has not been on that consistent level. I think if offers do come in they will definitely listen to them.“
