Celtic tipped to sign ‘magic’ Tom Rogic replacement after confirmed news – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Celtic to sign a like-for-like replacement for the departing Tom Rogic this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender suggested the Hoops need a creative midfielder to fill the void being left by the 29-year-old.

As confirmed by Celtic last week (13 May), Rogic, as well as Nir Bitton, will leave Parkhead this summer.

The Australia international was contracted until 2023 but Celtic have given him the green light to move on.

Hutton insisted the Bhoys need to look at replacing Rogic with another “flair player” during the summer window.

“It’s the next generation if you want, the next wave coming through,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“Maybe that’s now an opening for them to bring in someone who’s got that little bit of flair, that little bit of magic.

“Someone in midfield who can open up teams because Rogic is that player that can do that. He can give you that little bit of magic.

“With Rogic leaving, there is a space for that flair player to come in. Somebody to come in who can set off Maeda, Furahashi, Jota, who can see a pass. I think that’s what can take them to the next level.”

Rogic played 50 times across all competitions for Celtic this season, with six goals and 10 assists under his belt.

He has made a total of 272 appearances over a nine-year spell in Glasgow.

The 51-cap international won seven league titles, five Scottish Cups and five Scottish League Cups at Parkhead.
