Celtic tipped to sign midfielder in January after Yosuke Ideguchi latest – McAvennie
Frank McAvennie has told Celtic to sign a holding midfielder in January unless Yosuke Ideguchi is able to fill that role.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said the only way Ange Postecoglou should make new signings is if they are better than his current options.
As quoted by the Scotsman (19 October), the Celts boss said that the side are “well underway” with their planning for the January transfer window.

The Australian added that early business in last year’s winter transfer window was “really beneficial” and he is hopeful they can act in the same way this year.
In this 2022 January transfer window, Celtic signed Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley.
When asked what signings the Hoops need to make this year, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I would still say holding midfield player.
“I am not getting a chance to see the players that are coming in. [James] McCarthy doesn’t get any time really. [Oliver] Abildgaard is there. We have still never seen [Yosuke] Ideguchi.
“If we can get him fit, and he is the kind of player that we need, then he does not need to bring in any players.
“We have got two players for each position now which is what you want. The people he brings in have got to be better than what we have got.“

Ideguchi has yet to feature for the Green and Whites this season after suffering a freak leg injury at the start of the season.
The 26-year-old has only made six appearances since his arrival in January.
