Celtic told to make ‘massive’ Brady signing after confirmed news – pundit
Noel Whelan has urged Celtic to table a contract offer to departing Burnley star Robbie Brady.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Bhoys would benefit from the 29-year-old’s “massive experience”.
As confirmed on Thursday, Brady will leave Burnley when his contract expires this summer.
The Scottish Sun claim the 29-year-old is a long-term target of Celtic’s and is among a list of potential recruits for the new manager.
It is said Premier League sides Southampton, Watford and Crystal Palace are also keen.
Whelan insisted Brady would flourish with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
He also suggested the winger would help bring some much-needed leadership to Parkhead.
“Look, he was their record signing at a time,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Very good winger, great player, he’d be a massive signing. I’m sure Celtic would benefit from a player like that. He would probably find life a bit easier at Celtic, playing in the Scottish Premiership than he would in the English Premier League.
“It seems a good fit, quite frankly. They need things freshening up at Celtic Park. He also brings some massive experience to a side that really struggled last season on the field when it came to leaders and personalities.”
Brady joined Burnley from Norwich City in January 2017 and played 87 times for the Clarets.
Injury problems limited him to just 21 appearances in what was his final season at Turf Moor.
He has a total of 160 top-flight games under his belt, as well as 56 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
In other news, Football Insider can reveal Martin O’Neill has made last-minute Celtic manager plea as offer tabled.
