Celtic told to sell multiple starters by pundit – ‘Not fit to wear the jersey’

Multiple Celtic starters are “not good enough” and should not be at the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie blasted players for lacking grit and ambition in the wake of back-to-back league defeats.

Celtic lost to both Hearts and Kilmarnock with lacklustre performances which gave Rangers the chance to move ahead of them at the top of the league if they win their game in hand.

The club’s summer business has been met with scrutiny after multiple incoming , including Marco Tilio, Odin Thiago Holm and Hyun-jun Yang, have failed to impress.

McAvennie claimed that opposition outfits do not fear the current squad and suggested these players are “too nice”.

“It’s been awful, I’m not going to lie,” he told Football Insider.

“Fans have been spoilt because it’s been a long time since they’ve seen Celtic get beaten twice in a row.

“It’s been the performances more for me rather than the defeats.

“There were a couple of chances but they didn’t create the chances that Celtic should be creating.

“Hearts are alright but we should be a better team than them and Kilmarnock.

“I’m looking at individuals at Celtic and I’m thinking, if I’m a Hearts or Kilmarnock player, I wouldn’t be scared of Celtic.

“They’re not frightening me, so I don’t know what Brendan’s going to do but this is why he gets paid the big bucks.

“There’s players in that team that should not be in there.

“It’s not their fault. They’re honest workers but I just don’t think they’ve got what it takes to wear the Celtic jersey.

“I don’t see any ambition or anyone losing the plot or their temper with their teammates.

“Show some grit! Do something! Argue with one of your players to get you going.

“It’s absolutely too nice, which is alright when you’re winning but sometimes you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in.”
