Celtic transfers: O’Rourke reveals three players close to January exits

Alexandro Bernabei, Maik Nawrocki and Luis Palma are all likely to leave Celtic in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Brendan Rodgers is open to letting players on the fringe of his squad leave Parkhead this month.

This would allow the club to reinvest any transfer fees they receive into adding further quality and strength in depth to their squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Bernabei, 24, joined Brazilian outfit Internacional on loan in March and is now expected to complete a permanent move for a fee of £4.5million.

Nawrocki, 23, has yet to make a single appearance for Celtic so far this season and is looking to push for a move away in search of improved game time.

Finally, Palma, 24, has played just 212 minutes across eight appearances in all competitions and is no longer seen as a part of Rodgers’ plans for the future.

Celtic stars plot January exits after Brendan Rodgers twist

Former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 27 December that Celtic are drawing up “big plans” for the January window in an effort to back Rodgers.

The sales of a number of the fringe players from their squad will allow them to invest more funds into the team to strengthen key areas of his squad.

A new midfielder, left-back, and winger remain on the radar with the likes of James McAtee and Kieran Tierney both linked with the move to Parkhead.

The transfer team are also working hard behind the scenes to identify the right options to add to the squad to strengthen not just domestically but in Europe.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers looks dejected

Having already secured silverware in the Scottish League Cup, while they remain 11 points clear at the top of the league, Rodgers is keen to stamp a marker down in the second half of the season.
