Celtic v Rangers: Aaron Ramsey gives Gers ‘edge’ in title race – English pundit

The “brilliant” signing of Aaron Ramsey gives Rangers an “extra edge” over Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old’s arrival will give the Gers fans and players a “massive boost” ahead of tonight’s Old Firm derby.

Rangers confirmed the loan arrival of Ramsey from Juventus on transfer deadline day (31 January).

Giovanni van Bronckhorst said he was “absolutely delighted” to add a player of Ramsey’s “quality, experience and leadership” to the Ibrox club’s squad.

However, the Dutchman confirmed yesterday (1 February) that the Welsh international will not be part of the squad to face Celtic.

Whelan suggested the signing shows that Rangers are still a “really attractive” prospect for top players.

“It’s a brilliant signing,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It just goes to show that they are still a really attractive club on the world level.

“He brings a wealth of experience, he can score goals – and he comes in just before the Old Firm derby as well.

“Ramsey won’t be playing in the Old Firm, but that’ll give the Rangers squad and fans a massive boost.

“I think it’s a signing which gives them that extra edge in the title race this season.”

Rangers

Rangers lead Celtic by just two points atop the Scottish Premiership after a patchy run of recent form.

The Gers came away with all three points when the sides met at Ibrox in September 2021.
