Celtic well placed to complete ‘dramatic £80m Parkhead redevelopment’
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted “now is the time” for Celtic to kick off a “dramatic” redevelopment at Parkhead.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Main Stand looks like a “1980’s department store” and is “not becoming” of a club like Celtic.
A report from the Daily Mail in November claimed club chiefs are aware of issues surrounding the outdated stand, which was last developed in 1988.
The report claims estimates for refurbishment are set at around £80million.
Celtic have been buoyed financially by stunning performance in the new-look Champions League, with Brendan Rodgers’ side reaching the knockout stages this term.
The Hoops have between 10-15 thousand fans on the waiting list for a season ticket at Parkhead.
Celtic told ‘now is the time’ to rebuild Main Stand
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve always thought the fascia on the main stand was not really becoming of a club of the quality and scale of Celtic.
“It was 1988, if I’m correct, when it was rebuilt.
“I think Celtic need that, to put something special in place – something dramatic, architecturally.
“I’ve seen quotes of £80million. Celtic can do that, they can easily get the loan or the finance in place.
“The increase in revenue would justify that. It would be a statement to show they are going upwards and forwards. They’ve stagnated for a while.

“They’re happy to count the money in the bank, but now is the time to give Celtic Park that freshness.
“Right now, it looks like a 1980’s department store. They’ve got to make it something special, which they deserve.”
