Contract wrangle leaves Celtic well within their rights to get rid of error prone 27-year-old

The news that Dedryck Boyata is considering rejecting a new contract offer from Celtic should give the Hoops the green light to get rid of the accident prone 27-year-old.

The Belgian centre-back revealed, as reported by the Scottish Sun, that he is not sure what the future will hold as he heads into the last year of his Hoops contract.

The player’s refusal to commit to the Bhoys long-term should give the green light to Brendan Rodgers and the Hoops board to move Boyata on.

Even though he has had some good days in the Hoops – the 3-0 win over Anderlecht a prime example – there is always the danger that he might make a mistake.

The bad side of Boyata’s play was shown up most recently in the 3-2 win over Rangers, where he was at fault for Josh Windass’ goal for the Ibrox side and was also culpable for gifting a great chance to Alfredo Morelos, which the striker missed, much to the relief of the Parkhead faithful.

Whilst the Hoops can still get money for the player in the summer he should be sold and replaced with a new centre-back who Rodgers will be hoping is less prone to making errors.

Whilst Boyata will be thanked by fans for the part he played in clinching the treble last season, the fear that he was always on the verge of making a costly mistake will override that and the Hoops can become a better team with Boyata out of the side.
