Celtic will sell 21-year-old to English club this summer – report
By Derek Smtishon
Celtic are expected to sell youngster Saidy Janko to Bristol City during the summer, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim that the Bhoys will offload the 21-year-old defender in the transfer window and sell him to the Championship side.
The report details that the right-back still has two years remaining on his contract and the Scottish giants will demand a six-figure transfer fee as a result.
Janko spent last season on loan at Barnsley and could now be in line for a return to English football with their Championship rivals Bristol City.
The full-back made just 14 appearances due to injury, but proved his qualities by cementing a starting position in the closing month of the season.
He did not figure in Brendan Rodgers’ plans last season and it appears his future lies away from Celtic.
Janko has made 19 senior appearances for the Scottish champions since his arrival in 2015 and has chipped in with three assists.
Football Insider verdict:
Janko is unlikely to have a short-term future at Celtic, but they could be making a rash decision in allowing him to leave on a permanent basis. The 21-year-old impressed during his time last year with Barnsley and certainly has time on his side to improve. Further interest from the Championship suggests his qualities and he could move there in the hope of regular first-team football. Celtic do already have Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa as senior right-back options, a pair that Janko is unlikely to dislodge anytime soon. However, Rodgers should seriously consider a loan deal for the club’s youngster to see how he develops next year.
In other Celtic transfer news, they are hoping to seal a deal for an assist king in the next 48 hours.
