Celtic work on signing full-back after agreeing 23-yr-old’s exit – Sources
Celtic are planning to sign a new full-back this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Brendan Rodgers would “ideally” like to reinforce his wide defensive positions if the Hoops’ budget allows it.
The Glasgow giants have just one natural left-back in their squad, Greg Taylor, and are keen to bolster this position ahead of the new season.
Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider that the future of left-back Alexandro Bernabei, 23, is “uncertain”.
Celtic plan to strengthen full-back position this summer
He was sent out on loan to Brazilian side Internacional in March until the end of the year having failed to make an impact at Parkhead since his reported £3.75million move from Lanus in June 2020.
Meanwhile, it is expected that Taylor, 26, will hold talks with the club at the end of the season to extend his contract which is currently set to expire in the summer of 2025.
Rodgers’ side are set to have a busy transfer window, with Football Insider revealing (9 March) that the boss is pushing the Celtic board to make major changes at Parkhead this summer.
Sources have also told Football Insider (9 April) that the club are desperate to recruit a centre-back and a new first-choice goalkeeper in the upcoming summer window.

Celtic sit three points clear of Rangers at the top of the league table and most recently booked their place in the Scottish Cup final after their semi-final victory against Aberdeen at Hampden on Saturday (20 April).
They are back in league action against Dundee on Sunday afternoon (28 April).
