Viljami Sinisalo showed Celtic exactly why a new number one goalkeeper is not needed this transfer window with an excellent performance in the 3-0 victory over LASK on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old produced a wonderful display in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs as the Hoops edged closer to the league stage.

The Finland international has been Celtic’s main shot-stopper for the majority of 2026 after Kasper Schmeichel picked up an injury and subsequently retired.

Nevertheless, throughout the summer, Martin O’Neill’s side have been heavily linked with a new goalkeeper, with various players being linked.

However, Sinisalo has now demonstrated to the Hoops why their money is perhaps better spent elsewhere going into the final days of the summer transfer window.

The goalkeeper produced some excellent stats on Wednesday in what was a memorable performance in Europe.

What were Viljami Sinisalo’s stats vs LASK?

Despite a tricky end to the 2025-26 campaign, Sinisalo has been great so far this season.

The goalkeeper picked up his fourth clean sheet of the campaign against LASK, and based on his performance, it was well deserved.

According to Fotmob on 20 August, the keeper was simply superb against the Austrian side.

Overall, he made eight saves, prevented 0.76 goals, completed 94 per cent of his passes, completed 67 per cent of his attempted long balls and made 15 recoveries.

Therefore, this type of display was no doubt a statement from Sinisalo.

The goalkeeper showed O’Neill why he is worthy of remaining the new number one goalkeeper throughout the season, potentially derailing anoy potential transfer plans the club had in the remaining weeks of the window.

Who could Celtic sign before the transfer window closes?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Celtic are readying a move for Niko Sigur before the summer transfer window closes.

The Bhoys are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, and his versatility means that he ticks a lot of boxes.

The Hajduk Split star can play as both a right-back and a defensive midfielder, which has no doubt helped attract O’Neill’s interest.

However, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal over the line for Sigur before the transfer window slams shut.
