Celtic will demand a significant seven-figure fee if they are to part with Reo Hatate this summer.

This comes amid reports that Greek side Panathinaikos are interested in the 28-year-old midfielder.

The Japan international is one of the Greek side’s top targets, with Hatate also attracting interest from the Middle East and other European leagues.

The midfielder is keen to leave Celtic this summer for a fresh challenge, and Panathinaikos would have the funds to give him a significant pay increase.

However, Hatate will remain part of the Hoops’ squad until their valuation is met.

Martin O’Neill is yet to give the Japan international any minutes this season, and he has been an unused substitute in both matches.

Reo Hatate edges closer to inevitable exit

Hatate has been linked with a Celtic exit throughout the summer.

The midfielder is clearly not favoured by O’Neill and was dropped from the starting XI at the end of last season.

With Celtic targeting multiple new additions in midfield in the final weeks of the transfer window, Hatate’s exit from Parkhead has felt inevitable.

Now, the Daily Record’s report has indicated that the Japan international is closer to sealing an exit than ever.

It is clear that unless there is a wave of injuries, Hatate will be getting little to no game time this season.

Therefore, it makes sense for all parties to part ways in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

What other business could Celtic oversee this summer?

Celtic have been heavily linked to Slovan Liberec’s Ermin Mahmic in recent days.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has emerged as one of the best upcoming talents in Europe.

However, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Celtic would find a deal difficult to do for Mahmic.

While the £6million to £6.8m asking price is unlikely to be a problem, the amount of interest in the Bosnia and Herzegovina attacker could prove to be a stumbling block.

Mahmic has attracted interest from multiple clubs in Italy as well as Besiktas after his wonderful performances in Czechia and the 2026 World Cup.

However, it remains to be seen if Celtic make a bid for the attacking midfielder in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
