Celtic handed transfer warning as Benjamin Tahirovic’s full stats emerge in Bosnia and Herzegovina display
Celtic have been tracking Brondby IF star Benjamin Tahirovic this summer transfer window - but his performance against Canada on Friday could be a game-changer.
The 23-year-old started in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 1-1 draw against the host nation, but were often left relying on their defence to secure a point at the 2026 World Cup.
The midfielder was one of the poorest players on the pitch, as he struggled to create anything in the final third.
For Celtic, this is a massive warning, with Tahirovic seemingly out of his depth against Canada for much of the game.
Reports emerged this week that the Hoops had made an approach to Brondby IF to seek information about a potential transfer.
In the 2025-26 campaign, the midfielder made 25 league appearances for the Danish club as they qualified for Europe.
Benjamin Tahirovic heavily struggled against Canada
Brondby IF were hoping that Tahirovic would have a good World Cup in order to boost his price tag this summer.
Yet, against the Canadians, Tahirovic did little to impact the game and was arguably lucky to remain on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
Not only did Tahirovic have no influence in attack, but he also proved to be extremely careless with the ball, which will be a major concern for Martin O’Neill.
According to Fotmob on 12 June, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international only completed 70 per cent of his passes, failed to create a single chance, only had one shot, had a zero per cent crossing accuracy and only found a teammate with 17 per cent of his long balls.
This is a massive warning to Celtic and could be proof that Tahirovic cannot perform in big matches.
Who else are Celtic chasing?
Reports have indicated that Celtic are also chasing a move for RB Salzburg’s Bobby Clark.
The midfielder enjoyed a successful spell at Derby County this season as the club narrowly missed out on the playoffs.
Clark is reportedly available for a price-cut fee, with the Austrian side happy to offload the 21-year-old.
However, with numerous other clubs also showing interest, including Rangers and Derby, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal over the line.
