Celtic will surely look to keep outcast Johnny Kenny on their books for the time being after missing out on Kelechi Iheanacho.

The 29-year-old striker officially signed for Bursaspor on Friday and has reportedly signed a three-year deal.

The attacker had been at Celtic last season and played a crucial part in their title run-in before his contract expired.

The Hoops had hoped to bring Iheanacho back on a new deal, but these efforts are now in vain.

However, this could offer new life to Kenny at Parkhead this summer.

The outcast had looked set to depart Celtic this transfer window, but with striker options currently limited at the club, a U-turn may now take place.

Johnny Kenny could play a part at Celtic next season

Kenny was part of Celtic’s first-team for the start of the 2025-26 campaign, but failed to impress.

The striker netted just six times in 22 appearances before he was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers.

While he was a success in League One, and helped oversee the club’s promotion back to the Championship, he was not expected to return to the first-team picture at Parkhead.

Football Insider had previously exclusively revealed that Celtic will consider any offers that come their way for Kenny this summer.

However, considering their recent blunder with Iheanacho, this stance will surely change.

As it stands, Kenny is one of three strikers on the club’s books, alongside Camilo Duran and Daizen Maeda. Yet, the former is only a new signing, and the latter is heavily tipped to be sold this summer.

Therefore, Celtic make be forced to keep hold of Kenny for the time being at least until a new striker is brought in.

What other business could Celtic conduct this summer?

Arne Engels is another name who has been heavily linked with a Celtic exit this summer.

The midfielder was crucial to the club’s domestic double last season and was subject to bids from Nottingham Forest in the winter window.

Football Insider has now exclusively revealed that Engels has set his sights on a Celtic departure amid interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham are all believed to be eyeing a move, but it remains to be seen where Engels will be playing his football during the 2026-27 campaign.
