Julian Araujo to surely become Celtic top priority signing after transfer 'update'

Julian Araujo will surely become Celtic’s top priority target this transfer window as Everton eye a summer swoop for Alistair Johnston.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that the Premier League club are exploring a move for the Hoops’ star right-back, with the Canada international open to the move.

As a result, Martin O’Neill could be left extremely light on right-back options heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

Few players in this position have been linked with a move to the Hoops in recent months, apart from former loan star Araujo.

The Bournemouth defender impressed on loan to Celtic Park during the second half of the 2025-26 campaign, before an injury cut his season short.

Now, re-signing the 24-year-old will surely be a priority at Parkhead as they eye replacements for Johnston.

If Johnston is to depart Celtic, O’Neill already knows that Araujo is capable of replacing the Canada international.

When the Celtic star was stuck on the sidelines last season, the Mexico international quickly stepped up and instantly became a hit among supporters.

Araujo even netted a late winner against Kilmarnock before his injury, in what was a brilliant 3-2 win at Rugby Park.

While it is unclear if Bournemouth would be willing to part with Araujo at this point in the window, surely Celtic will now push for a move.

Reinforcing this position will be a priority if The Bobble's report on Johnston is accurate, and with Araujo already proving his quality at the Hoops, this surely makes him the club’s number one target.

Who else could Celtic sign this summer?

Another full-back who has been linked to Celtic in recent months is Greg Taylor.

The defender only left Parkhead last summer for PAOK, but is reportedly back on the club’s radar after falling out of the Greek side’s plans.

Over the course of his career in Glasgow, he made 216 appearances for the Hoops and won 11 major trophies.

However, a return for the 28-year-old this summer seems unpopular among much of the current fanbase.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who Celtic look to bring into the club over the coming weeks as they aim to hold onto their Scottish Premiership crown yet again.
