Chalobah digs at Chelsea in emotional message after being frozen out by Maresca

Nathaniel Chalobah has praised the “mentality, perseverance and character” of his brother Trevoh after he was frozen out at Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca‘s thoughts on Trevoh Chalobah have come full circle in the last 12 months after he demoted the 26-year-old to train with the Under-21s and then loaned him out Crystal Palace upon taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah started 14 matches and scored three goals for Palace and was acknowledged by Marc Guehi as part of their FA Cup success, but his spell at Selhurst Park was cut short by Maresca mid-season.

The Italian recalled Chalobah in January and the centre-back went on to feature 19 times before the Club World Cup, where he started four of Chelsea‘s seven matches as they went all the way to the decider.

Nathaniel Chalobah reflects on Chelsea’s Club World Cup success

Chelsea were close to faultless in the Club World Cup final as Chalobah kept European champions PSG at arm’s length to record a 3-0 victory, and back-to-back trophies after the UEFA Conference League.

PSG beat Inter 5-0 in the Champions League Final as well as both Madrid clubs 4-0 at the Club World Cup, but had no answer to the Blues as Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro had Chelsea 3-0 up at half-time.

Chalobah helped Chelsea see out a comfortable win and round off a successful first season for Maresca in the Stamford Bridge dugout, as well as completing the England international’s own redemption arc.

Former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah reflected on his brother’s return to prominence in an emotional post on his Instagram story (14 July) that swiped at his treatment from the club.

The 30-year-old said: “Pushed to train with u21s.
Sent on loan to Palace.
Came back and played
. Champions League qualification.
Conference League winner.
England debut.
Club World Cup winner.

“Tested all throughout, mentality, perseverance and character was never broken. You deserve it ma boy. Proud of you bruh.”

Chalobah future secure after Chelsea redemption arc

Although Nathaniel Chalobah is currently a member of the Sheffield Wednesday side engulfed in a wave of unpaid wages and transfer embargoes under Dejphon Chansiri, things are on the up for his brother.

Trevoh Chalobah’s return to Stamford Bridge hasn’t completely quashed reports that he could still be sold by Chelsea this summer, but his starting place in the Club World Cup final does suggest otherwise.

Chelsea will likely be on the hunt for further centre-back cover, but Chalobah has earned his place in Maresca’s squad and proven the Italian wrong to complete his breakout season in West London.
