Championship ace on Leeds wanted list to undergo medical ahead of £2.5m move – reports
By Dominic Toner
Leeds’ January transfer target Sergi Canos is set to have a medical at Championship rivals Brentford, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed on their official Twitter account that Norwich’s 19-year-old attacker is set to undergo a medical at Brentford.
It is understood that the medical will take place ahead of a £2.5million move to Griffin Park.
The Daily Star have reported this month that Leeds are keen on a deal for Canos, but Brentford were always set to rival them for his signature.
Canos is a highly-rated attacker who was previously at Liverpool’s academy, before completing a move to Norwich.
The Spanish winger has previously spent time with Brentford during a loan spell and now looks set to return to the London club.
He made 39 appearances for Brentford during the spell, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists from the wide position.
Garry Monk’s side look set to miss out on promising youngster, but do appear to be strengthening their squad with alternative recruitments.
Football Insider verdict:
Leeds appear to be missing out on Canos who is showing the potential that he can develop into a top player. However, he has managed just three appearances in the Championship this season for Norwich and has struggled to cement his position in the first-team. Monk is looking to bolster his squad, in particular in the attacking department, and needs players that can challenge to get into the starting XI. Canos was unlikely to provide that at this stage of his career and the 19-year-old will benefit from a move to Brentford, where he can play regular football. Leeds are on the verge of completing a deal for Alfonso Pedraza if he completes his medical and he should provide the extra bit of quality in the squad to aid the promotion push.
