Championship manager now odds-on favourite to be sacked next after weekend developments

The Championship could be about to see its sixth managerial casualty of the season ahead of the festive period.

Ruben Selles was given the boot by Sheffield United midway through September after an awful start to the campaign, and things have spiralled from there in the second tier.

Paulo Pezzolano unsurprisingly lost his job at Watford in October, before Will Still suffered the same fate at the start of November.

Alan Sheehan currently stands as the division’s most recent sacking, as both he and former Norwich City boss Liam Manning lost their roles within days of each other earlier in November.

The Championship is notorious for managerial changes, and the latest edition of that could be just around the corner after this weekend’s results.

Marti Cifuentes odds-on favourite to be next Championship sacking

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this week that Leicester City were considering sacking Marti Cifuentes after their midweek defeat to Southampton, and things have only worsened for him since then.

The Foxes have had a hugely difficult start to the campaign after their relegation from the Premier League last term, and their 3-2 home defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday has left them sitting 16th in the table.

The East Midlands outfit would have had aspirations of an immediate return to the top-flight, but that has quickly become little more than a pipedream under Cifuentes’ rule.

He only arrived from QPR in the summer, but he is already potentially on the verge of losing his job.

The Spaniard, 43, is now the odds-on favourite to become the next sacking in the Championship, and he may not even hold out for long enough to lead the team against Derby County next weekend.

Cifuentes’ win percentage at Leicester is lower than it was at QPR

Leicester appointed Cifuentes after he left QPR back in June, and they were clearly of the view that he could be the next young Championship boss to go on and achieve big things in the game.

However, that simply hasn’t materialised at all so far at the King Power Stadium, and his win percentage is startlingly low.

Cifuentes has notched just six wins since taking the reins at Leicester, which hands him a win percentage of just 31.58 per cent at the moment, which is worth than 34.94 per cent that he ended on at QPR.

Given the resources that are available to the Foxes that simply isn’t good enough, and it is a clear indication that things are not going to work out for them with him at the helm.

If he does survive this week and make it to the clash with in-form Derby County, then it would be no surprise if that game became the final nail in the coffin for him.
