Championship relegation battle: Supercomputer predicts who’ll be relegated after West Brom and Leicester latest

West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City are both embroiled in a Championship relegation battle as time runs out to pull away from the bottom three.

Both clubs have endured some of their worst seasons in recent memory so far in 2025-26, and each have 11 games to avoid a shock relegation to League One.

West Brom could appoint their third permanent manager of the campaign soon, with interim boss James Morrison currently tasked with ending their 11-game winless run in the league.

Leicester are only sitting 22nd due to having six points deducted by the EFL for previous financial breaches, but are also in dire straits, with no wins in their last nine Championship matches.

With the Baggies potentially set to appoint Darren Moore to save their season, Opta‘s supercomputer has predicted which team is set to be relegated this season.

Opta predicts West Brom to be relegated over Leicester

Morrison’s chances of landing the West Brom job permanently were harmed as they lost 2-1 away to fellow strugglers Oxford United on Saturday.

Leicester failed to take advantage and move out of the bottom three, however, as an in-form Norwich City side beat them 2-0 on home turf.

The Baggies’ run-in certainly looks harder on paper right now, as they take on seven of the current top 10, while Leicester are set to face three of the current bottom six.

Opta have taken those variables, as well as their current points-per-game ratios, into account, and backed the Foxes to avoid relegation in 21st place on 49 points.

West Brom are predicted to finish on 48 points, with a 54.36 per cent chance of relegation compared to Leicester’s 36.12 per cent, and thus be relegated with Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday.

Who do Opta think will be promoted from the Championship?

Leicester and West Brom would each have expected to be involved in the promotion race this season, but around 13 other teams instead look set to battle it out as the campaign draws to a close.

Coventry and Middlesbrough currently make up the second tier’s top two, and Opta believes that they will each be promoted automatically on 90 and 84 points respectively.

Ipswich are close behind Boro on 82 expected points, while Millwall, Hull and Wrexham are backed to make up the rest of the top six.

Southampton are predicted to be the closest rivals to Wrexham, with a 30.4 per cent chance of making the top six as it stands, compared to the Welsh side’s 57.44 per cent chance.
