Aston Villa striker transfer scrapped amid fears of dressing room mutiny – report
By Harvey Byrne
Fulham have scrapped their interest in re-signing Aston Villa’s troublesome striker Ross McCormack, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun has claimed that the Cottagers’ boss Slavisa Jokanovic was considering bringing the 30-year-old back to London.
However, it is believed that the dressing room were against bringing him back to Fulham, leading club chiefs to drop their interest amid fears of a mutiny.
The player made the switch to the Midlands in the summer from Fulham in a £12million deal after scoring 23 goals in 49 fixtures in all competitions.
But, it hasn’t worked out for him so far at Aston Villa and he has scored just three goals in his first 22 appearances for the side.
Additionally, he has also been dropped down to the Under-23s by manager Steve Bruce after missing training due to “faulty gates.”
Now it would seem that the player was also a disruption to his teammates at Fulham despite the success he brought to the side.
The Sun article states that he was understood to be a bad influence last season and the Fulham squad aren’t keen on bringing him back into the team.
McCormack still has three years left on his contract at Aston Villa, but his time with the club may be coming to an end after just six months.
Football Insider verdict:
McCormack has seemingly dug himself into his own hole due to a poor attitude. There is no doubt that he has some talent when he is on his game. However, he just hasn’t shown that at Villa to accompany his own personal problems. A move away from the Midlands side may be the best for him, but with this latest story his value is only going to decrease. A number of teams may have seen the whole gate situation as a one off, but if they are to believe he was also a disruption at Fulham then they may steer clear. At 30 McCormack’s career is nearing the last stages and he may have now wasted the opportunity to finally play at in the English top flight.
