Championship sack race: Marti Cifuentes odds slashed, plus Chris Davies update at Birmingham

Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes is likely to be the next Championship manager relieved of his duties, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Mason was sacked by West Brom on 6 January after a late 2-1 defeat to Leicester saw them record a fourth loss in their previous five Championship outings.

He was the favourite to be sacked next in the Championship prior to his dismissal, with Gary Rowett the last boss to receive his marching orders, from Oxford on 23 December, before the decision was made.

The second tier has seen seven managerial casualties so far this term, with more surely set to follow in the weeks to come as clubs make a change for the second half of the campaign.

Several bosses remain under pressure at the start of 2026, and Cifuentes is the most likely to be sacked among them, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Leicester‘s return to the Championship has not gone to plan at all so far after Cifuentes was hired as the man to get them back to the Premier League ahead of this season.

Football Insider revealed last month that Leicester were seriously considering sacking Cifuentes, but a three-match unbeaten run that followed, with wins against Derby and Ipswich, was enough to save his job.

They have since gone on to lose to Sheffield United and Coventry City, in between wins over the Baggies and Cheltenham Town.

The Foxes’ continued struggles see them occupy 13th in the Championship, six points from the playoffs, and he is the 5/4 favourite to be sacked next among all other managers in the division.

He is closely followed by Birmingham City boss Chris Davies, at odds of 4/1 as they linger in 14th place, with Blackburn’s Valerien Ismael the third-favourite at 9/2, and Sheffield Wednesday’s Henrik Pedersen up next, at 5/1.

Russell Martin is the favourite to replace Cifuentes at Leicester

Michael Carrick was the previous frontrunner to succeed Cifuentes at the King Power Stadium, but those links have dissipated after he was appointed as Man United’s new interim manager.

Former Rangers and Southampton boss Martin is now the favourite to be Leicester’s next manager, at odds of 4/1 as he searches for his next challenge after leaving Ibrox in October.

Robbie Keane is also in contention to take over as Leicester boss after the Spaniard, as the second-favourite at 7/1, while England under-21s manager Lee Carsley is also believed to be in the running at odds of 10/1.

Kevin Muscat and Mark Robins are also believed to be contenders, at 12/1 odds, with Carlos Corberan, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Paul Heckingbottom each priced at odds of 14/1.
