Charlie Cresswell told to leave Leeds United after confirmed news – Mills

Danny Mills has tipped Charlie Cresswell to leave Leeds United on loan in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender admitted he has been surprised by Cresswell’s lack of game time this season.

The 19-year-old has featured just five times for the first time this season, including just once under Jesse Marsch.

As quoted by Leeds Live on Friday (22 April), Marsch revealed he is a big fan of the centre-back and insisted he “needs to play”.

And Mills has suggested that could be away from Elland Road if the American does not afford him any more opportunities.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I’ve been surprised up to this point that he’s not had a bit more of a chance and a few more opportunities in the first team.

“He’s now an England Under-21 international and wasn’t allowed to go on loan.

“They kept him at the club because they needed him but he hasn’t been used. He’s made a handful of appearances for him this season. It’s certainly not many.

“He needs to play, he needs that opportunity. He may get greater opportunity under Marsch next season.

“The only way you get better is playing in higher quality games. He’s not going to get that playing for the Under-23s.

“If Jesse Marsch isn’t going to use him, he has to go out on loan to gain that experience.”

Cresswell is under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2025 after signing a new contract last summer (2021).

His only appearance under Marsch was as a first-half substitute in the dramatic 3-2 win over Wolves at Molineux last month (18 March).
