Charlie Nicholas reveals annoyance towards Celtic first teamer, predicts clash v Bayern Munich
By Aramide Oladipo
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes that Celtic will seriously struggle to contain Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in their Champions League clash in midweek.
Brendan Rodgers’ team travel to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night and the former Hoops striker believes that German outfit will come away with a 2-0 victory.
The Hoops pulled off a very important result in their last Champions League away match where they secured a 3-0 win over Anderlecht with goals from Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair.
However, Celtic got their European campaign off to a terrible start, suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat at home against Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.
Expressing his opinion on the Sky Sports website, Nicholas is not confident about Celtic’s chances and he also revealed his annoyance at first-choice goalkeeper Craig Gordon’s comments ahead of the European tie.
“Craig Gordon came out and said ‘we’re ready to challenge Bayern Munich’ and I just thought ‘keep quiet’,” he said.
He should hope the Bayern players haven’t heard that because the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller don’t need any more motivation.
“Celtic can’t change their style and the team has never recovered from their loss to PSG, when they passed the ball as badly as I’ve seen them.
“They also have defensive fitness concerns and they’ll try to sit in with their backs to the wall in what will inevitably be a damage-limitation exercise.”
Gordon has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign between the sticks, achieve a total of 12 clean sheets in 18 appearances in all competitions.
The previous encounter between both sides in the Champions League ended in a 0-0 draw at Celtic Park during the 2003-04 campaign.
Rodgers’ would certainly be more than pleased if his side manage to replicate that scoreline at the Allianz Arena in midweek.
