‘Chelsea £100m transfers’ expected – ‘not many clubs would do this’

Chelsea could be set to earn more than £100million from player sales this summer due to the surplus talent in their squad.

The West London club have been incredibly active so far in the transfer window, as they look to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Liam Delap are three of the notable names who have already completed a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, Chelsea were recently hit by a £27m fine from UEFA for breaching financial regulations, and this figure will increase if they fail to balance their books over the next four years.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Blues are in a position to be able to sell players and avoid further punishment.

‘Chelsea have been clever by loading up on players’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained that Chelsea have built up a “surplus of talent” as a result of their extravagant spending over the last few years.

Since Todd Boehly acquired control of the West London club in 2022, he has spent well over £1billion on new players.

Wyness added that Chelsea could sell up to £100m worth of talent this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “In terms of Chelsea, they need a positive transfer balance for the players registered for the UEFA competitions.

“Chelsea have been clever in this sense that they’ve loaded up on players. We all know that they’ve done it for years in terms of the academy, but now they’ve actually got a surplus of talent, and they can afford to sell those players like Madueke.

“I think they will get themselves back in line because they’ve spent so much on having so many players. A lot of clubs wouldn’t, but Chelsea can.

“I think we could be seeing up to £100 million of transfers for Chelsea. It’s going to be a very active window.”

‘Chelsea will accept offers for goalkeeper’

Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly prepared to accept offers for Djordje Petrovic this summer amid growing interest from a number of Premier League sides.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Enzo Maresca has no space in his squad for the 25-year-old.

Reports have claimed Bournemouth are now advancing in talks with Chelsea over his signing and have made a bid, while Sunderland remain keen on a deal.

Football Insider revealed on 9 July that Bournemouth are pushing to sign Petrovic as they missed out out on signing Kepa Arrizabalaga when he joined Arsenal.
