Chelsea ‘agreement’ update is savaged by Kieran Maguire
The Premier League are “incapable of applying their own rules” after taking months to assess Chelsea for selling two hotels to a sister company.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Premier League regulations state that it should have taken no longer than 10 days for the deal to be assessed.
Chelsea have appeared to circumnavigate Profit and Sustainability Rules by selling two hotels to a sister company for a total of £76.5million.
The sale has potentially allowed the Londoners to steer clear of a potential rule breach and a points deduction this season.
However, Football Insider revealed that there is still an ongoing investigation by the Premier League as to whether the deal is considered “fair market value”.
Chelsea £77m hotel sales should have been assessed within 10 days
Maguire explained that the fair market assessment should have been carried out months ago when the deal was struck in the 2022-23 season.
“It is very strange because such transactions usually have to be approved by the Premier League either in advance or within 10 days of the transaction going through,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Yet, we are here in April 2024 discussing a transaction made by Chelsea in the 2022-23 season.

“The Premier League is not prepared to give up a straight answer because they have been contacted by journalists and they just either don’t reply or give no comment.
“So it seems the Premier League are incapable of applying their own rules.“
