Chelsea already have already got their Timo Werner replacement after transfer update – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Armando Broja is a “ready-made replacement” for wantaway Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 20-year-old Chelsea striker – on loan at Southampton – is letting manager Thomas Tuchel know he is “ready” with his performances.

Broja has netted nine goals in 17 starts for the Saints this term, including a stunning solo goal in the FA Cup against West Ham on Wednesday (2 March).

According to Goal (3 March), Werner is becoming “increasingly frustrated” with his limited opportunities at Chelsea and is “considering his options” ahead of the summer window – with Borussia Dortmund a potential destination.

Whelan insisted Broja is performing better than the Blues striker “by a mile”.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “They should be seriously looking to keep Broja, why wouldn’t they?

“You’d get more money for Werner than you would Broja – and who’s playing better? Broja by a mile.

“If Werner wants to twist Chelsea’s arm, they can turn around and say, ‘hang on, we’ve already got a player who can do it in the Premier League’.

“It might be beneficial to bring him back and get some money into the football club by selling Werner.

“It makes more sense than selling Broja, who is banging in the goals for another top-flight side. He can be that ready-made replacement.

“Broja is letting Tuchel know right now that he can afford to let Werner leave because he looks ready to take on the responsibility of being a Premier League striker.”

Werner has made six league starts for Chelsea this term, scoring once.

Broja is contracted until 2026 at Stamford Bridge.
