Kieran Maguire issues ‘traumatic’ Chelsea claim after ‘volatile’ £263m reveal

Chelsea have acted in a “volatile” manner since their “traumatic” ownership change in May – and the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel is case in point.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Chelsea confirmed the exit of the German manager on Wedensday (7 September).

The Todd Boehly regime, who completed a takeover in May following Roman Abramovich’s expulsion, have since announced Graham Potter as Tuchel’s successor.

Tuchel won the Champions League during his first season with the Blues and helped the team to reach two finals in 2022-23.

The Athletic reported on Thursday (8 September) that the 49-year-old was personally involved in all but one of Chelsea’s summer signings ahead of his third campaign with the club.

Chelsea spent approximately £250million on incomings, and Tuchel has netted a £13m payout following his dismissal, per The Sun.

Maguire insists that the West London club’s £263m gamble is indicative of “erratic” financial planning.

“Chelsea’s behaviour since the takeover does appear to be erratic, volatile and scattergun,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

Why give a manager involvement in transfer policy if you’re going to sack him? If his sacking was linked to his demanour in a pre-season tour, it does seem somewhat strange.

While Tuchel might be difficult to deal with last season, both of which they only lost on penalties. They finished 3rd in the Premier League and they are presently above Liverpool in the table.

The approach seems illogical. The new owner has been in for 100 days, but a lot of that has been outside of the football season.

They did inheret a club that had been through a traumatic period with the freezing out of Roman Abramovich.
