Chelsea boss Graham Potter has dropped hint over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future – pundit

Paul Robinson has suggested Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will have a central role to play in Graham Potter’s new Chelsea side.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one pointed to the fact that Potter, 47, has played with a recognised number nine at previous clubs Brighton and Swansea.

On Thursday (8 September), Chelsea announced the appointment of Potter on a five-year deal.

The Englishman takes over from Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked following a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

Chelsea signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on deadline day for £12million.

The ex-Arsenal striker came to Stamford Bridge to work with Tuchel once more.

As reported by The Telegraph (8 September), co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have phoned Aubameyang to reassure him following Tuchel’s exit.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Aubameyang’s situation, Robinson said: “When you look at Potter’s sides over the years, his teams always have an identity.

“You can recognise one of his sides just from watching them. One thing he always plays with is a recognised number nine. That could play into Aubameyang’s hands.

“Aubameyang still has a lot to prove though. We know the type of character that he is off the field.

“We have also heard from people about Potter’s man management skills. He gets the best out of players. He will have to do that with Aubameyang.

“I don’t think he will be the type of player Potter is used to dealing with. If he can get him to focus he has got an incredible talent on his hands.”
